KitchIntel is one of several fictitious companies created by Prof. David Bernstein, now a member of the Computer Science Department at James Madison University .

1 About the Company

KitchIntel intends to simplify and improve all aspects of the "kitchen experience" (including the purchase of food and materials, meal preparation, and waste disposal).

2 The Intelligent Kitchen

Though a large number of microprocessors have found their way into kitchen appliances, they are not being used to their full advantage. For the most part, these microprocessors are used for open loop control and some very simple forms of closed loop control.

We plan to:

Enable all existing microprocessor-equipped appliances to communicate with each other and with the various people and organizations involved in the "kitchen experience".
Equip many more kitchen and pantry components (e.g., waste baskets, cabinets, utensils) with computing and communications capabilities so that they too can interact.

Our systems will, ultimately, allow the kitchen to automatically track "inventories" and prepare shopping lists, prepare menus from individual recipes, provide instructions to various appliances (e.g., pre-heat temperatures, mixing speeds), monitor the food preparation process, and more.

The name KitchIntel is a conflation and shortening of the words "kitchen" and "intelligent".

The logo consists of various connected kitchen appliances.
